Altaf calls for crackdown on terrorists

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief, Altaf Hussain, has called for immediate arrest of terrorists belonging to Jihadi organisations and those patronising them. In a statement issued from London on Monday, Altaf said that he is surprised that Karachi police and administration held dialogue with the alleged ‘terrorists’ instead of taking action against them for attacking a religious leader, setting ablaze police checkpost, houses and opening fire on police and Rangers in which a Rangers man was killed in Sohrab Goth area. He said the dialogues with terrorists were held like the UN. "This shows that certain police functionaries have alleged links with extremist organisations," he contended. "When the govt has launched an operation against the Jihadi terrorists in North Waziristan, why such action is not being taken in Karachi," Altaf questioned and demanded of the president, PM, governor, CM, corps commander, DG Rangers, and IGP to order for their immediate arrest.

Patience running out, US warns Syria

WASHINGTON: The US ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad has blamed that Syria has become a hub for terrorists who want to stop democratic progress in Iraq and said that US patience is running out. Khalilzad’s tough talk on Syria is part of a US pressure campaign in many foreign capitals and at the United Nations gathering this week in New York. "Our patience is running out, the patience of Iraqis is running out. The time for decision has arrived for Damascus," he said. He said: "All options are on the table including military. I would not like to elaborate more; they should understand what I mean."The United States believed that Iraqi Sunnis were refusing to agree a proposed constitution because of threats from Sunni extremists who had infiltrated Iraq from Syria, where they had training camps, he said. "It simply must close the training camps," he said. "It should not allow youngsters misguided by al-Qaeda, from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, from North Africa, to fly into Damascus international airport," he said.
